Self Driving Display

I came in to help visualize the driving process early on. The hardware was still being developed so we had to rely on writing out a script for a driving scenario. These videos help us jump start the design process and think through what information and feedback was required when.

I quickly headed down the path of a modular system. Each circle had a function and could expand or contract when focus was needed.

These early designs were the foundation for what information to display when. Feedback was important when getting on the highway, merging, and taking manual control. The rest of the time the driver shouldn’t be distracted, while also providing status at a glance.

I also tried out different visual styles, like this super minimal version. Lanes were represented by circles and feedback was contained within each circle. While a little too over simplistic, studies like this helped inform our future vision.

Further along the process we refined our vision and added in additional information, some built into the road itself. We mapped out edge cases to make sure this approach would accommodate all the complexities of highway driving.

Hardware

As hardware was being designed I visualized the final UI and modified it to better fit the hardware. The hardware had a wrapped display along with some cutouts, we needed to make sure the UI felt integrated into the hardware.

Marketing

Last up I delivered different marketing videos for the Ghost web site. They were split into looping chunks and could be triggered as different text information was displayed.
